The young Cuban woman Dargis Vargas Ferrer is showing signs of recovery at a hospital in Santiago de Cuba after being brutally attacked by her ex-husband in front of their young daughter. The assault took place on Monday in the Petrocasas neighborhood within the Abel Santamaría Urban Center, where the 28-year-old lived with her child.

According to Dargis's aunt, who has been closely monitoring her recovery, Dargis has started to take a few steps and is now able to eat. "She has many injuries; she's completely devastated—arms, legs, head, face. He intended to kill her or leave her permanently disabled," the woman told local reporter Yosmany Mayeta.

Dargis is currently hospitalized at the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital, where doctors have provided the family with a hopeful prognosis. "We just have to wait and see how she progresses," a relative mentioned.

The assailant, identified as Alberto Pérez Masso, attacked Dargis in the presence of their young child, shocking residents who were eager to take justice into their own hands. Despite being imprisoned for a different crime, Pérez Masso was on a "prison furlough" when he committed the attack.

After the attack, the perpetrator was surrounded by patrol cars as he hid in a building while an angry crowd gathered outside, demanding justice. The police had to escort him from the scene to ensure his safety.
