The alleged killer of Usiel Quesada Florat, the 23-year-old who died early Friday morning after being stabbed in the back, has been identified as Dairon Montero Basulto, according to the independent outlet La Hora de Cuba. Dairon, around 20 years old, was on prison leave after being convicted for the murder of a pedicab driver in Camagüey, the source revealed.

Currently, the whereabouts of the alleged murderer remain unknown, as he continues to evade justice.

The Crime

Usiel Quesada, who lived in the Salomé neighborhood, was with a friend at a recreational area known as La Carpa de Jayamá, in front of the Hotel Camagüey, when he was attacked with a knife from behind, as reported by La Hora de Cuba. The alleged killer resides in the San Antonio district, also in Camagüey.

The young man, who according to his girlfriend was unarmed, lost his life on the same day as his anniversary with his partner Thalía Cárdenas. Devastated, she lamented that he was left alone. "Where were those who claimed to be his friends? Where were those who went out with him, who left my 'whitie' alone and got him killed?" she desperately asked in a social media post.

"Usi, this post should be congratulating you on our anniversary, not saying goodbye. What an anniversary gift," Thalía added in a Facebook post where she expressed that her life has been shattered, as he had promised her children, and she only wanted to have them with him.

Cuba has become increasingly unsafe over the past two years. Violent acts occur daily, and unlike in the past, the regime can no longer silence the families mourning the loss of loved ones because their numbers are growing, and they refuse to be silenced.

According to the Cuban Conflict Observatory (OCC), at least 18 people died in Cuba in July due to the rising wave of violence that plagues the island.
