A post in the Facebook group Accidentes Buses & Camiones revealed that the tragic incident involved the deceased officer and a truck, occurring at the well-known "Curva del Carpintero" on the Levisa-Sagua highway. A couple of shared photos showed the wrecked motorcycle and a red truck.

Another post in the Facebook group Noticias de Sagua de Tánamo identified the fatal victim as Orlando Moreno Almaguer, also known by the nickname "La Picúa."

A Community in Mourning

"Yesterday, Friday, August 9th, was a sad day for us. We lost a brother, friend, father, and loyal companion, Orlando Moreno Almaguer. He always led by example with his attitude and personality," wrote Yaniuris Borges in another Facebook post, which was shared in a local Facebook group.

Although there are no details about the causes and circumstances of the fatal accident, a commenter on the post suggested it was triggered by the "pursuit of a Toyota driver who fled the scene."

Orlando Moreno Almaguer lived in Levisa and was reportedly the head of the motorcycle police from Mayarí to Moa, as pointed out by another user.

"Such a loss. I knew Orlando; he was a non-commissioned officer in the FAR before joining the motorcycle police. Even if some people don't like traffic officers, it's no reason to celebrate their death. They are humans too, with families, children, parents, siblings, spouses, etc. If you want to get along with traffic officers, just do your part, and you'll see you won't have any issues with them. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace, my friend," one user commented in response to celebratory remarks about his death.

"Orlando may have been a strict officer, but that doesn't take away his humanity. He was imperfect like all of us but was also a family man whose loved ones are now mourning his 'senseless' departure from this cruel and unjust world. I write this because I'm human and feel deeply for any loss of life, regardless of who it is," added another.

Currently, no further details have emerged about how the tragic traffic accident occurred.

In late July, two other officers died in a traffic accident, this time in the province of Camagüey.
