The Miami Beach City Commission has voted to rename 13th Street in honor of the iconic Cuban-American singer Gloria Estefan. This street, located between Ocean Drive and Meridian Avenue, will now be known as Gloria Estefan Way. The decision was made unanimously, following the recommendation of the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee.

In September 2023, the Miami Beach Women's Commission proposed honoring influential women in the city’s history and culture, highlighting Gloria Estefan for her remarkable contributions to music and her lasting legacy in the community. Songs like "Conga," "Mi Tierra," and "Anything for You" catapulted Estefan to fame during the 1980s, solidifying her career as one of the world's leading artists.

Miami Today News also reported that 12th Street, between Ocean Drive and Washington Avenue, will be named Naomi Wilzig Way in recognition of the erotic art collector and founder of the World Erotic Art Museum in Miami Beach.

Commissioner Kristen Rosen González emphasized the significance of this recognition, noting that until now, only one street in Miami Beach was named after a woman, Barbara Capitman, a pioneer in the restoration of the Art Deco District. The commission approved an amendment to the city code to allow for the joint naming of streets in honor of distinguished women.

The next steps include approval from the county commission to make this joint street naming official.
