Cuban in Uruguay Encourages Fellow Countrymen to Seek New Opportunities

Friday, July 26, 2024 by Mia Dominguez

A Cuban who has been living in Uruguay for over a year has shared words of encouragement and advice for his compatriots considering a move to the South American country.

On TikTok, Yudiel (@yudielkaren1) posted a video addressing common concerns about the cost of living and wages in Uruguay. "Family, let me give you some advice. If you're thinking about coming to Uruguay and you're hearing people say it's an expensive country, that the salary won't be enough, don't think about that, forget about it. Each of us is responsible for our own decisions," he began.

In his message, the young man, who often shares content about his experience as a Cuban immigrant in Uruguay, emphasized the importance of having a clear vision and an entrepreneurial mindset. "Look, I’ve been here a year and a half, but I already have my business plan noted down. I don't know if it will be this year or next year, but I already have the vision," he assured.

He further encouraged Cubans to seek their own opportunities and not to get stuck on the idea of needing a high salary. "In Uruguay, there are opportunities to start your own business and do whatever you want. So don't hold back, don't think about working for a good salary. Come with the mindset of what can I start, that's what you have to do," he concluded.

As often happens, his words sparked a wide range of reactions among TikTok users. "I wish all Cubans were like you," commented one user, while another added, "This Cuban is great"; "Always positive, blessings"; "Great Cuban, it's true, those who work hard get ahead," said some.

However, not all comments were positive. "But I had to leave because of a lack of opportunities. No one thought the government would help you"; "My brother, don't encourage more Cubans to come here, it's terrible," others opined.
