The cause of death for Cuban journalist Magda Iris Chiroldes López, who passed away this Wednesday at the age of 33, was reportedly dengue, according to information disclosed by 14ymedio citing a hospital source.

Chiroldes López, who served as the chief editor for the news segments at Canal Caribe on Cuban television, died while waiting for medical attention at the emergency room of the Freyre de Andrade Clinical Surgical Hospital in the Centro Habana municipality.

“She arrived on her own, accompanied by her parents. She felt unwell and deteriorated rapidly. I had never seen a case like this; it was so quick that she wasn't even hospitalized. Everything happened in the waiting room,” a medical source, who wished to remain anonymous, told the mentioned outlet.

The medical professional detailed that the young woman was conscious of her worsening condition, which included symptoms such as malaise, fatigue, body pain, and high fever.

“The young woman screamed that she didn’t want to die. Her parents are devastated,” the source concluded.

The remains of Magda Iris Chiroldes López were briefly laid to rest on Thursday morning at the funeral home on Calzada and K in El Vedado before being transported to her hometown of Pinar del Río.

The burial is scheduled to take place on Thursday afternoon.

Before taking on responsibilities at Canal Caribe, the journalist worked for the Guerrillero newspaper in Pinar del Río and the magazine Juventud Técnica.
