Cubana Singer Shares Cost and Experience of Moving from Havana to Holguín

Tuesday, July 23, 2024 by Claire Jimenez

The Cuban singer known as “Flor de Cuba” revealed to her followers that she has decided to move “permanently” from Havana to Holguín. She disclosed that she hired a truck for the move, which cost her 200,000 Cuban pesos for a journey of approximately 16 hours.

The young singer admitted that the truck’s seats were somewhat dirty, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed by placing a blanket over them to make the long ride more comfortable.

In the comments section of her post, dozens of netizens discussed her decision, as it is more common for people to move in the opposite direction—from the provinces to the capital. Many were surprised by her choice to relocate to the interior, with some predicting severe power outages for her.

“Girl, from Havana to the USA, not the other way around, for God’s sake”; “If Havana is bad, imagine the countryside”; “What are you going to do in Holguín that you can’t do in Havana?” questioned some.

“Folks, if Havana is falling apart, what development are you talking about? Please, all of Cuba is green areas, even Havana is not exempt,” concluded one user.

Amid the wave of astonished Cubans reacting to the announcement, there were also those who considered it a wise decision.

“Havana is a sewer and Holguín is beautiful”; “There’s more food in the countryside than in Havana, seen and proven,” commented a couple of users.

Another point of contention was the high amount Flor de Cuba paid for the service, roughly 600 USD at the informal exchange rate, leading some to comment that the move almost cost her more than buying a house.

“Wow, that’s why there can’t be any money in the banks,” concluded one observer.

The singer has not specified the reasons for her decision to move from the capital to Holguín.

“I am La Flor de Cuba in Cuba. And I live well here. I generate income from my social media, I have my businesses… And I love my country!” she said a few months ago in statements to Capricornio TV while explaining why she does not want to leave Cuba.

At that time, Flor de Cuba said that although she has visited other countries for vacations, she does not feel the need to settle outside of Cuba, as she enjoys a satisfying quality of life in her homeland.
