Saturday, July 20, 2024 by Edward Lopez

The Cuban police drama "Tras la Huella" is facing a significant challenge, mirroring the broader societal issues in Cuba, as it grapples with the growing exodus of artists. In recent years, several actors who have starred in this program have left the island permanently or spend extended periods abroad.

The show, promoted by the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), has featured well-known and popular faces from Cuban television since its early seasons. Initially, the cast included Blanca Rosa Blanco, Jorge Alí, and Albertico Pujol, who have been in the United States for several years; Yamil Haled, Omar Alí, and Roberto Perdomo, with the latter two making more recent appearances.

However, new absences are becoming evident, especially among the younger artists. Giselle González, the actress who portrayed Lieutenant Isabel, has been posting on Instagram from Maryland, USA, for several months, alongside her husband and child. According to a post by the portal Cubaactores, she confirmed in her Instagram stories that she will not be part of the new season of "Tras la Huella."

Recently, Maikel Amelia Reyes, who played Major Lucía in the drama, confirmed she is in Spain without a return ticket to Cuba, leaving her departure's permanency in question. Similarly, actor Leonardo Benítez, who plays Major Julio, is currently in Spain with his partner. Like Maikel Amelia, he recorded episodes for the current season before his trip.

Oscar Ibarra, who made his television debut in an episode of "Tras la Huella" titled "Asalto en la madrugada," arrived in the United States this past June. Actress Edenis Sánchez, who played Officer Susel in previous seasons, has been residing in Chile for years, facing many challenges but not entirely giving up on acting.

Undoubtedly, the coming year will bring many new faces to this Cuban television police drama.
