Spanish Girlfriend's Life Transformed by Cuban Boyfriend: "At First, I Couldn't Understand a Word"

A Spanish woman shared on TikTok how her life has changed since dating a Cuban boyfriend, including her initial struggle to understand him. User @aliciagare highlighted that her boyfriend calls her “jevita,” a term commonly used in Cuba to refer to girlfriends. She also mentioned the typical Cuban habit of making a sound, similar to frying an egg, to express protest.

She noted that music is a constant presence in their home, and they dance all day, even to reparto music. “My boyfriend is Cuban, so we always have plátano burro, rice, and the fan running, despite having air conditioning,” she continued.

This video joins a series of others on the social platform that have become part of a viral trend among the Cuban community on TikTok, where users share the most notable things about their Cuban partners. "I'm dating a Cuban, and when he introduces me to his friends, they think I'm with him just for the papers," begins Jennifer, a Bolivian woman who also joined the trend, adding that her boyfriend "likes to play music very loudly."

Additionally, Cuban YouTuber Frank Camallerys amused his followers and garnered applause for his Spanish boyfriend by sharing a TikTok video where he tests his knowledge of Cuban expressions and slang. "So, let me tell you, I'm a Cuban living in Spain, I've been here for three years. My boyfriend is Spanish, and we're going to test his 'Cuban-ness' to see how much he's learned in three years with a Cuban," he says at the beginning of the video, where he is seen driving with his partner—who remains off-camera—sitting in the passenger seat.
