Cuban actress and TV host Edith Massola has broken her silence regarding the death of her cousin, fellow actor Carlos Massola, with a brief message on her social media. "Enough horrors," Edith wrote on her Instagram account in response to a follower who asked if she would comment on Carlos, who passed away on July 3.

The cryptic phrase, posted 10 days after his death, was accompanied by two emojis: one of a face with a zipped mouth and another of a smiling face with sunglasses. Edith Massola has faced numerous criticisms on social media for not offering condolences for her cousin’s passing.

The independent media outlet La Tijera published a screenshot from the artist's Instagram on the day Carlos Massola died. "Edith Massola showed indifference and contempt, focusing on the misplaced wallet of musician Maykel Blanco instead of dedicating a note of affection and respect to her cousin's memory," La Tijera reported.

On that day and the following ones, the host of 23 y M continued to post photos and videos from Spain, where she was happily filming her show with choreographer and director Liz Alfonso. This behavior did not go unnoticed by many Cubans, including some followers who labeled her silence as a lack of sensitivity, incomprehensible even if she and Carlos had political or other differences.

"The issue is her cousin didn’t have dollars. If he had money, she would have been by his side having a breakdown," commented one man. "There can be many differences of opinion, but blood ties are unbreakable, and besides being family, he was a human being," expressed an elderly woman.

"She should have taken a pause in her schedule. Almost all Cubans and artists did, dedicating a few minutes of respect and feelings to the late actor. With this attitude, she only shows her lack of empathy and feelings, not just as family but also as part of the artistic community of her generation," remarked a doctor.

Last October, Carlos Massola revealed that he was estranged from his cousin, the regime's star presenter, Edith Massola. "She doesn't care about me. I call her cell, and she doesn't answer. And I love her; she's my cousin, but she wants nothing to do with me," the actor said.

At that time, the actor speculated that she might be afraid to speak with him due to his political stance. "It seems she is scared. She is scared to make contact with me," he noted.

In recent years, Carlos Massola was censored by the regime for his opinions on the situation in Cuba, where he openly called for a change of system, the release of political prisoners, and the resignation of the leaders. In stark contrast stands his cousin, who enjoys playing the regime's figurehead, serving as the host for their events and working closely with Lis Cuesta Peraza.
