A fire in the cabin of an American Airlines plane bound for Miami prompted the evacuation of passengers before the aircraft had even left San Francisco International Airport. Flight 2045 was scheduled to depart at 12:15 pm (local time) for the Florida city, but just minutes before takeoff, the crew reported smoke in the cabin.

Later, the airline confirmed that the smoke originated from a laptop inside a passenger's bag. Crew members swiftly removed the bag and evacuated the passengers.

"The bag was quickly removed by our crew, and all customers exited the aircraft. We appreciate our crew's professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience," American Airlines stated in a release.

Some passengers exited the plane via emergency slides, while others used the jet bridge. According to the San Francisco Fire Department, three people sustained minor injuries, none of which required hospitalization. Following the evacuation, passengers were transported to Terminal 3.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States announced an investigation into the incident.
