Zoe Martínez, a Cuban political commentator and representative of the Liberal Party (PL), has announced her bid for São Paulo City Council with significant backing from former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro.

Martínez, who has lived in Brazil since she was 12, will officially launch her candidacy this Friday at the state's Military Association, as she revealed on the social network X. The analyst stated she is embarking on this new mission encouraged by people she deeply admires, according to the digital site Jornal da Cidade.

At the event, the presence of Colonel Ricardo de Mello Araújo (PL), who is running for vice president on the ticket with Ricardo Nunes, is also expected. It is worth noting that Martínez is a figure closely associated with former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Martínez is known for her outspoken criticism of the political and social issues plaguing the Cuban regime. She gained significant attention in 2022 when she schooled a Brazilian journalist who refused to acknowledge that Cuba is a dictatorship.

As a frequent guest on the Morning Program of Jovem Pan, César Calejon refused to recognize the reality of the Caribbean nation during a broadcast, prompting a sharp response from Martínez. "Cuba has nothing to export to the world. The Cuban dictatorship destroyed Cuba. My family left one by one—first my father, then my mother, then my sister and I. It was a family separation that lasted seven years, fleeing from that dictatorship," she retorted to her counterpart, who was attempting to justify the situation from a "leftist" perspective.

Martínez advised him to study the issue before attempting to justify the suffering and family separations caused by the regime. "Oh, Zoe, you're 22 years old and haven't finished graduating yet," the journalist said condescendingly. "You can try to belittle me, but my knowledge of the topic is superior to yours," Martínez fired back during the discussion.
