The custodian of a notary office in the city of Santiago de Cuba was reportedly murdered, according to recent reports from neighbors and acquaintances of the victim. It was journalist Yosmany Mayeta who revealed that the man "was found dead" at the notary office located on San Pedro Street (between San Basilio and Santa Lucía), and he requested information about the case.

In the comments section of his post—which has garnered over 400 responses—dozens of people confirmed the violent death of a custodian named "Miguel," a well-loved man judging by the numerous expressions of shock and sorrow over the news.

"They beat him on the head until they killed him. Forensic experts and the DTI were there. They went to the surrounding businesses asking and seeking information, locating cameras. A 'simple heart attack' doesn’t cause such a commotion," noted one commenter in response to those urging patience for details and confirmation of whether the death was natural or violent.

Other netizens concurred that the custodian was murdered and found naked. Regarding the alleged motive for the crime, several pointed to a robbery.

"They killed him, they say, for taking a hard drive. How little a human life is worth!" remarked one commenter, sparking some conspiracy theories.

"There must be something on that hard drive that someone needed... Because if I were taking a hard drive, I'd take a computer... They don't even know how to do things right," another woman commented.

So far, there is no clear information about what happened or why someone targeted a family man working in a place as unlikely for a robbery as a notary office, if indeed that was the crime's motive.

"If it had been the custodian of an MLC store for a robbery, but a notary office?" questioned one of the many commenters.

Meanwhile, there are numerous expressions of grief on social media over the death of custodian Miguel, who apparently lived on San Basilio Street and previously worked fixing cars.

"My neighbor Miguelito, it's not fair what they did to you. Rest in peace. May God have you in his glory, such a good and beloved man"; "I had the pleasure of knowing him, a good man and a friend. He helped me when I needed it most without any interest. May God have him by his side"; "Poor man"; "He was a great person," are some of the comments left by the tragic news.

Many other comments have focused on the alarming and unchecked violence in Santiago de Cuba, a province that daily shows evidence on social media of bad news of all kinds, many involving violent acts.

This is not the first time in recent months that a custodian has been attacked in a central location in Santiago de Cuba. In late May, a man working as a custodian for a Mipyme business located at the Santiago de Cuba Aquarium was gravely injured during a robbery at the establishment.

In that case, neighbors indicated that the custodian was found tied up and covered in blood. This Thursday, following the latest murder of a custodian, a neighbor of the previous victim confirmed that he survived, but only by a miracle.

Unfortunately, Miguel did not have the same luck.

As of the closing of this note, no further details about the crime have been confirmed.
