Paramedic Recounts Fiery Car Incident in Havana: "We Couldn't Save the Little Girl"

A paramedic who responded on Friday to help a family in a car that caught fire on the Ocho Vías Highway in Havana expressed deep regret over not being able to save a young girl who perished in the blaze.

Miguel Sarmiento, a young professional working in prehospital emergency medical services, shared on Facebook that his team managed to provide timely assistance to two babies, but another young girl couldn't be rescued. "We had the privilege of responding to that emergency and were able to save the babies present at the scene. Mobile124 listening," Sarmiento stated in the Facebook group "Traffic Accidents in Cuba."

According to Sarmiento, two babies who were in danger were saved, but "the other little girl couldn't be rescued." The accident took place on Friday afternoon near the Cotorro Bridge, where a Kia Picanto flipped several times and caught fire.

A seven-year-old girl died at the scene, and her family members are in critical condition.

Online user Zenia Labrada López mentioned that the family in the car are her neighbors. "It was a couple with their baby, aged between 7 or 11 months, the sister with her two children, and the father of the two young women. The little girl who couldn't be saved was 7 years old, her brother is 5, and the baby's mother, aged 17, passed away at dawn. The baby is in slightly better condition, as is the father; the other three are the most critical," she detailed.

Meanwhile, Yordanis Castallanos Preval confirmed that the girl who died was his cousin's daughter. "Our town is in mourning and overwhelmed with grief by the tragic situation that psychologically weighs on us, now that we know the news, and we are anxiously awaiting updates on the cases being treated at the medical facilities," he expressed.
