Miami Resident Defends City Against Critics: "It's Unfair to Portray Miami as Unlivable"

Friday, July 5, 2024 by Madison Pena

One of the most discussed topics among the Cuban community on social media is the idea of leaving Miami in search of a more affordable lifestyle. While some agree that life in other states outside of Florida is better, there are those who are convinced that there's no place like Miami. Amid all the videos that have emerged on the topic, one from a Cuban woman in Miami is gaining significant attention on TikTok.

In her video, Dianela Rodríguez (@dianelarodrgz) defends the Magic City, countering the growing trend on social media of criticizing Miami as a hard place to thrive. Her statements have resonated with many users. "Since I left Miami, my life changed. Now it seems like a challenge; I have seen countless videos on TikTok of people who became millionaires after leaving Miami. And the reality is simple: if you don't do well in one state, you must move to another, be it Miami or Hong Kong," Dianela begins.

"Everything here is relative. I know people who haven't done well in other states but have thrived here in Miami. Or simply, some people have come because they don't like the climate up north. But now they want to portray Miami as bad because it's bad for those who couldn't get ahead here, but there are many people who have. This city has given many people the chance to start their businesses. It's unfair to make it seem like Miami is a bad place or unlivable because that's not the reality," she added.

These statements have sparked a myriad of comments, both from those who support Dianela's assertion and from those who prefer living in other states. "I went to Houston for a year, and it was my worst experience. I came back to Miami and never left again. It's the most beautiful city in the world. Long live Miami!" "Leaving Miami was the best decision I made in this country so far," "I completely agree with you. Those who fail blame Miami, but in reality, they are the ones to blame," "I lived in New Jersey for 20 years and moved to Miami... I've been here for 35 years and won't leave because I wouldn't trade Miami for any other city," and "You're absolutely right, but we can't deny that inflation with rents is out of control," are some of the comments being read.
