Monday, July 1, 2024 by Claire Jimenez

A Polski Fiat and a vehicle from the Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba (ETECSA) collided on Monday morning, thankfully with no loss of human life reported. The accident was shared by user Maikel Fernández in the Facebook group "ACCIDENTES BUSES & CAMIONES por más experiencia y menos víctimas!", where he posted a video of the incident.

Fernández specified that the collision occurred at the intersection of Vía Blanca and Calzada de Concha in the La Habana Vieja municipality of Havana. He noted that there were "only material damages" involved.

The video showed that both vehicles collided head-on, seemingly due to one of them failing to yield the right of way. The Polski Fiat sustained the most damage, with noticeable dents and impacts to its front.

Just the day before, two Moskvitch cars suffered significant damage after a head-on collision on Cuba's Carretera Central. "Two of the same model, head-on a few meters from the dividing line between Matanzas and Mayabeque, Carretera Central. There were injuries," wrote user Raciel García in the same Facebook group.

Meanwhile, a vehicle overturned in the dividers of Vía Blanca, the highway connecting the Cuban capital with Varadero.

Additionally, two people were injured after a collision between two cars near the student residence of Universidad de Oriente in Santiago de Cuba. The injured, who were taken to the Hospital Provincial Saturnino Lora, were traveling in a white car that struck a parked black Mercedes Benz.

In another incident, a Peugeot 405 and a classic almendrón collided in a roundabout in the city of Santa Clara on the same afternoon, but no fatalities were reported.
