The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has indicated that the projected path of Hurricane Beryl remains distant from the shores of Cuba. However, the Windward Islands, particularly Saint Vincent, the Grenadines, and Grenada, are bracing for the impact of the powerful Category 4 hurricane starting early Monday morning.

Potentially Catastrophic Impact on Windward Islands

“Potentially catastrophic hurricane-force winds, life-threatening storm surges, and damaging waves are expected,” the NHC stated in an update posted on social media platform X. “All preparations should be swiftly completed today,” the meteorological agency warned.

The dangerous Hurricane Beryl has set a record as the first Category 4 Atlantic hurricane ever recorded in the month of June, meteorologist Colin McCarthy noted on X. “We have never seen such a strong hurricane so early in the season,” he emphasized, highlighting the concerns this has raised within the scientific community regarding the current hurricane season, which was already predicted to be particularly active.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States has forecasted a more active than usual Atlantic hurricane season, with the potential for up to 13 hurricanes, of which as many as seven could reach major intensity.

According to the annual forecast published by the agency each May, between June 1 and November 30, there will be between 17 and 25 storms with winds exceeding 62 kilometers per hour.
