The Cuban doctor Manuel Guerra, who fled Cuba in 2022 after the State Security threatened to imprison him for his criticisms of the regime, has just purchased his first home in the United States. After two years, three months, and seven days since he arrived with his wife in their new country, the couple achieved a long-awaited goal that in Cuba, not even in seven working lifetimes, they could have realized.
"Today we received the keys to our first property in the U.S., the first little house for my son Ian Guerra. In freedom, a clear goal generates a plan, which with discipline, dedication, and sacrifice, is just a matter of time before it becomes a reality," he announced on Facebook.
"It is the product of honest work that truly dignifies, as it gives value to the labor performed while also flirting with the idea of human improvement, for one always wants more of what makes one feel better, and one strives more if one knows that it can improve the status of their family," he said.
Guerra advised Cubans who are arriving in the country or those who have been here for a short time and see the home-buying process as something distant, to focus and work based on their desire, as often it is simpler than it seems.
"For the henchmen who harassed me when I was on the Island, for the cyber thugs still lurking on my profile, for the high-ranking officials of the PCC and the informers who tried to harm me just for dreaming of a free and prosperous Cuba, with everyone and for the good of everyone, swallow this," he said.
"Above all, we thank the one above, who has not let go of our hand for a single second. Thank you, heavenly father," he expressed.
Manuel Guerra, known for his opposition to the Castro regime, left Cuba in 2022 after his mother begged him to leave before he ended up in prison. He arrived in the United States in March of that year, after crossing several borders with his pregnant partner. In September, he announced the birth of his first son, whom they named Ian.
In April of last year, he obtained a license as a physician assistant in the United States. "Once again, I will be doing what I consider part of my idiosyncrasy, serving and helping to enhance the quality of life of the patients who come under my care," he said.
The young doctor was expelled in Cuba from the hospital where he worked due to his social media denunciations of the problems in the Cuban healthcare system.
