Is Houston a Better Place to Live Than Miami? A Cuban Entrepreneur's Amusing Take

Tuesday, June 25, 2024 by Sofia Valdez

Is life in Houston better than in Miami? This question was humorously answered by a Cuban residing in the Texas city in a TikTok video that's going viral with an unexpected twist...

In the video, the Cuban (@tonito2020) explains in a serious tone that he started his own business upon arriving in Houston. However, few would expect the punchline: his "business" involves asking for money outside a supermarket with a cardboard sign, adding a humorous touch that has entertained viewers on the platform.

"To be honest, my life changed the day I left Miami. In Miami, I never made more than 10 bucks an hour, and when I got to Houston, I started my own business. I'm my own boss; I don't work when it rains, and I don't work when it's too sunny. I work whenever I want. The only thing I have to keep an eye on is the market," he says in a serious tone.

As the video progresses, the humor becomes more apparent, and he's asked if he means the stock market. He clarifies, "No, the market here, the number of people who come here, because the more people that come, the better my business does. My thing is standing out here and getting a buck or two from people after they buy their groceries. I live off this; this is my thing. If you want to do well, you have to start your own business."

The video ends with the Cuban holding a sign supposedly asking for money, which has sparked laughter. The humor and irony of the video highlight this Cuban's creativity in addressing the comparison between these two U.S. cities.
