Three promising young Cuban baseball players recently left the country for the Dominican Republic in pursuit of signing with a Major League Baseball organization, as confirmed by sports journalist Francys Romero.

The players are Chamil Ramírez, 14; Sandor Córdova and Christopher Tamayo, both 16, who were among the top players in the under-15 category in 2023, according to Romero.

Profiles of Young Talents

Ramírez, a pitcher, is described as "one of the most intriguing players in this group." As a member of the Havana team, he recorded a 5-0 record, 1.91 ERA, and 21 strikeouts in the National Championship for his age group. His résumé also includes a 6-inning start where he allowed just 1 hit, no runs, and struck out 5 during the final phase of the Cuban Championship. Romero highlighted Ramírez's fastball, clocked between 82-83 mph, and noted his potential to develop four above-average pitches, making him a strong candidate for a starting pitcher role.

As for catcher Sandor Córdova, Romero mentioned his "solid tools such as strike zone management, excellent arm strength, and power at the plate." Córdova's swing is fluid and generates power, resulting in a high number of extra-base hits.

Shortstop Christopher Tamayo, who hails from the province of Artemisa, "showcased an impressive offensive line of .322/.438/.414 with 2 doubles, 3 triples, and 15 stolen bases in the 2023 National Under-15 Championship," according to Romero.

The three young athletes will be training at the Wellington Herrera Academy. Given their ages, Córdova and Tamayo could be eligible for the current signing period that ends on December 15.
