The Cuban authorities have confirmed the cause of a collapse that occurred on Thursday night in Havana, when the balcony of a first-floor residential building fell onto a café filled with patrons.

The incident took place at the El Tablazo café, located on 1st Street, between C and D, resulting in three injuries. The Municipal Assembly of People's Power Plaza de la Revolución reported on its Facebook profile that the collapse happened at 11:00 pm in a building with two levels.

"On the ground floor of the building is the El Tablazo café, and at the time of the accident, several people were present, resulting in three adults being injured, currently not life-threatening," the post stated.

"The collapse, according to several witnesses, was caused by the accumulation of marble slabs that the construction brigade working on the first level placed without considering the weight capacity, leading to the structural failure," the details read.

The incident did not result in any injuries to minors or fatalities.
