Jorge A. García Más, a Cuban who lost 14 family members in the 13 de Marzo Tugboat Massacre in July 1994, passed away in Miami this Sunday at the age of 79. García died after suffering from "a painful illness" for several months, as informed by his son Jorge Félix García in a statement made public on Facebook by activist Ramón Saúl Sánchez.

A teacher by profession and a writer, García dedicated the last three decades of his life to bearing witness and spreading the truth about the sinking of the tugboat by the Castro regime off the coast of Cuba on July 13, 1994, an incident in which 37 people, including 10 children, lost their lives. Their bodies were never recovered.

"Today, June 2, 2024, the life of a human being filled with pain but also with love for so many has come to an end. What will not end is the tireless work of this man in favor of justice. That will remain forever, as an example of personal sacrifice and as a perpetual tribute to those he fought for over the last 30 years of his life, the victims of the 13 de Marzo Tugboat Sinking," emphasized his son.

"The legacy of a man like my father undoubtedly creates a sense of commitment and sets an example for anyone who has had justice unjustly taken away from them," Jorge Félix said. "Let us be thankful for the time spent by his side, for the lessons learned along the way, for the embrace, the friendly hand."

"Jorge García Más (Jomás) stays with us today, he does not leave us," his son affirmed.
