Spanish Tourists Distribute Medicines and Aid to Needy in Havana

Wednesday, May 29, 2024 by Emily Vargas

Two Spanish tourists, who recently visited Havana, distributed medicines, school supplies, and money to needy individuals and children in Cuba. The YouTuber Jonix Dose accompanied the tourists and documented their charitable efforts.

"Today we went out to the streets of Havana, Cuba, along with some channel followers to distribute donations and necessary items like medications for those in need in Cuba, and this is what happened," said the content creator in the video description.

In just over 12 minutes, Jonix summarizes a day he described as "very special" and considered it a "privilege" to share with his followers. One of the tourists mentioned that they have been coming to the island for years and confessed that they enjoy visiting and helping Cubans.

Donations and Their Impact

Among the donated items were injectable materials, surgical gowns, medical instruments, and school supplies, among other things. The goal was to deliver these donations directly to beneficiaries, such as nursing homes and schools, without intermediaries, which wasn't always possible in all the places they visited.

"The smiles make it all worthwhile," said the other tourist to describe the essence of what they experienced in the educational centers they managed to enter.

They also moved to some central streets of Old Havana, where they supported several locals with medications and money who approached them upon seeing their charitable work.

Actions like those carried out by these Spanish tourists are appreciated by the Cuban people, who are enduring a food crisis and a shortage of medicines that seems to have no short-term solution. Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel himself has stated that this situation will continue due to the lack of supplies in pharmacies and the absence of dozens of essential products.

"In the face of the shortage of supplies and medications, the best response we can give our population in such difficult times is the quality of service. We will continue to have shortages of medicines," he affirmed.

Meanwhile, Cuban non-governmental organizations have warned about the increase in begging in the country. The Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) has noted that it is increasingly common to see people searching through garbage containers for food and other resources.
