Description not available

A decomposed body was found on Monday afternoon in an alley in Santiago de Cuba, according to reports shared on social media by journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.

The discovery occurred near the area known as the "red tanks," situated between the neighborhoods of Versalles and Altamira, as detailed by Mayeta Labrada. He mentioned—citing local residents' testimonies—that the body was found partially buried, likely uncovered by animals attracted by the foul odor.

The area was cordoned off by the police.

In a subsequent update, the source confirmed that the body has been identified as Heriberto Sánchez Reyes, a 54-year-old resident of Trinidad Street #1, between Peralejo and Avenida Jesús Menéndez. The source explained that last Saturday at 7 AM, Heriberto went to pick up an electric scooter that had been purchased the day before by Dr. Yasmani Bueno Rodriguez from a coworker at the Policlínico Frank País García in the Agüero area.

"It is said that after the scooter was picked up, it had a flat tire, and Heriberto took it to a repair shop on Rastro Street, between Martí and Yarayó. He left for a ride around 1 PM on Saturday, and his whereabouts were unknown until yesterday when his body was found far from his home," the source stated.

Yosmany Mayeta indicated that it has been confirmed that the found body is indeed the missing man, but there is no trace of the scooter.

"It is presumed that Mr. Heriberto was murdered for the scooter, which its rightful owner never got to enjoy," concluded the journalist, who promised to share more details as they become available.
