Cuban para-athlete Yankiel Sol Cervantes made his mark at the World Para Athletics Championships held in Kobe, Japan, by winning the long jump final in the T47 category (upper limb impairment).

According to the Cuban News Agency, Sol secured his title on his second jump with a record of 7.60 meters, a distance his competitors couldn't match. His jumps of 7.42 meters and 7.55 meters were also noteworthy, as they would have been enough to clinch the crown.

Trailing behind Sol were Russian neutral athlete Nikita Kotukov (7.32 meters) and China's Hao Wang (7.25 meters), finishing in second and third place, respectively.

Another Cuban para-athlete, Abraham Viltrés, also competed in the event and achieved a personal best of 6.28 meters, finishing in 13th place.

Earlier in April, Yankiel broke his own world record at the Para Athletics Grand Prix in Xalapa, Mexico. The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion extended his record to 7.84 meters, surpassing his previous mark set at the Pan American multi-sport event in Santiago de Chile 2023, where he jumped 7.74 meters.

These achievements firmly established Sol as the favorite in the Japanese global competition and have garnered attention ahead of the Paris Paralympic Games scheduled for July and August next year.
